Luka Doncic's heroics on the court have made him a superstar, but at home, the Dallas Mavericks point guard faces a different challenge: His wife, Anamaria Goltes, isn't a big fan of the game of basketball, and as a result, he's keeping quiet about it. On a recent episode of SHOWTIME Basketball's "Headlines," Doncic spoke with Rachel Nichols about this unique dynamic.

Anamaria's support goes beyond basketball tolerance. She's been by Doncic's side since they met at age 11, and attends every game despite not being a basketball fan herself. This "no basketball talk" rule serves two purposes: it helps Doncic decompress from the pressure of being a baller, and it allows him to truly disconnect from the game when he's at home.

Doncic acknowledges the positive impact of the rule: "I mean, she likes it now, but she didn't like it before, and that's good for me. I really like that." With space away from the constant noise around basketball, he is able to recharge his batteries and be more powerful on the court.

That support system has proven to be crucial to Doncic's recent development. After posting a career-high scoring season last year, he's averaging even more this campaign, currently ranking second in the league with 32.9 points per game. He's contributing in other areas as well, averaging 9.1 assists and 8.4 rebounds per game to help the Mavericks hold down the No. 5 spot in the Western Conference.

The team's goal is to finish better than last year in the playoffs, and Doncic's play will be key. Anamaria's role in this process is more than just emotional support. Her ability to create a basketball-free zone on her home court, allowing Doncic to manage external pressures, could be crucial to Texas' success.
