The Virginia Cavaliers defeated the Syracuse Orange 84-62 in their ACC opener on Saturday. The Cavaliers were led by sophomore guard Isaac McKneely, who scored 22 points on 6-8 shooting from three-point range. Virginia also got double-digit scoring from senior forward Jacob Groves (14 points) and sophomore guard Reece Beekman (12 points).
The Cavaliers shot 56.1% from the field, including 52.4% from three-point range. They also outrebounded the Orange 42-27.
Syracuse was led by sophomore guard Judah Mintz, who had 11 points. The Orange shot 37.8% from the field and committed 17 turnovers.
Virginia will next host North Carolina Central on Tuesday.
